Five ways to think about any idea.
A good reader does more than understand. ilmVault practises five kinds of thinking, and each one asks something different of the same passage.
Our five thinking lenses
Pick a lens to see the same sentence read five ways.
Did you never observe how imitations, beginning in early youth and continuing far into life, at length grow into habits and become a second nature, affecting body and voice and mind?
In your own words, how does imitation become habit?
ilmVault is an AI-powered learning and thinking platform that helps people become better learners through deeper understanding and independent thinking.
What each lens trains
Understand
Explain ideas in your own words. Can you say what the author means without repeating their sentence?
Analyse
Look at claims and evidence. What is the argument resting on, and does the support hold?
Challenge
Question assumptions and limitations. Where does the claim stop being true?
Apply
Use ideas in real situations. What would this change about a decision you face?
Reflect
Consider what changed in your thinking. Has this altered how you see something you already believed?
Why lenses instead of one score
Thinking is not one skill. Someone can explain an idea clearly and still never question it, or apply it confidently without checking the evidence. Separating the lenses shows which kinds of thinking you already do well and which ones deserve practice.
Questions in Think First sessions, tests and Guided Learning tasks each lean on a lens, and your answers add evidence to that lens in your Thinking Profile.
Questions people ask
Do I have to choose a lens?
No. The coach picks questions that exercise different lenses as you read. You can focus on a lens you want to strengthen.
How is each lens scored?
On a 0 to 4 scale: no meaningful evidence, Emerging, Developing, Strong and Advanced. Only your own words count as evidence.
Do the lenses work outside books?
Yes. They apply to any text you can read closely: articles, reports, research papers, case studies or your own notes.
